Casting Call: Contract Character Performer for 1920s Theatre Door Greeter

Location: Flagstar Strand Theatre, 12 N. Saginaw St., Pontiac, MI 48342

Role: Door Greeter/Character performer

Performance Period: All 2024-2025 Strand Signature Series Events from September 6th, 2024 to May 30th, 2025

Compensation: $20/hour; this is a 1099 contract employee position

 

Description: Are you a talented performer with a knack for making people feel welcome? We are seeking a dynamic and versatile actor to portray a door greeter at our live performance theatre, themed in the glamour and charm of the 1920s. The ideal candidate will embody a character who is friendly, comedic, warm, welcoming, kind, helpful, and unforgettable.

 

Character Description:

• Age Range: 18-70 years old

• Gender: Any

• Personality: The character should exude a friendly and comedic demeanor, making each guest feel at ease and valued. They should be warm and approachable, with a knack for memorable interactions.

• Performance Style: Open to interpretation; however, the portrayal should be engaging and delightful, reflecting the lively and hospitable spirit of the 1920s era.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Greet and engage theatre guests with enthusiasm and charm.

• Provide helpful and courteous assistance and information to guests.

• Create a memorable first impression through an entertaining and welcoming presence.

• Contribute to the overall immersive experience of the theatre with your character portrayal.

 

Requirements:

• Must be aged 18+

• Ability to convincingly portray a character aged between 18 and 70.

• Strong improvisational skills and a talent for comedy.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills with a genuine desire to make guests feel special.

• A background or interest in 1920s themes and character work is a plus.

• Special Skills such as juggling, singing, tap dancing, or close-up magic are a plus.

Audition Details:

• Auditions: Saturday, September 7th & Sunday, September 8th from 10a to 12p

• Location: Flagstar Strand Theatre, 12 N Saginaw St. Pontiac, MI 48342

• Preparation: Please prepare a 2-minute monologue or improvisation set that showcases your comedic and welcoming abilities. Feel free to incorporate elements of the 1920s if you wish.
